Video presentation of the SOP https://youtu.be/mVh7SC4reH0

For full details please download and read the SOP. Quick reference information:

  • For transfers where there is no suspicion of COVID-19 (Level 1) then all staff will wear and FFP 3 mask, gloves and a plastic apron. Care must be taken to ensure that there is no contamination of the ambulance or staff even though the risk is low.
  • For transfers where there is a concern of COVID-19 infection (Level 2 and Level 3) then enhanced PPE will be worn by the nurse and doctor, and the ambulance technician will be expected to remain “clean” in order to assist with the transfer.
  • There is a copy of the SOP in all NTS ambulances. You will need to be prepared to access the SOP folder as part of your NTS role during your shift and be familiar with its contents.

Arrival at the Royal London Hospital

The trust has implemented a strict foot traffic system with separate staff entrances.

The main entrance to the hospital, next to the pharmacy, is the designated staff entrance. You cannot enter the site via Stepney Way. You will need to have your staff ID ready.

On arrival the security staff will direct you to the staff route – you will need to follow the main corridor through the hospital towards the Stepney Way entrance, turn left and walk past the discharge lounge, then proceed to Life Core 4 in order to take the lift to Level 8.

If you do not have your staff ID, you will need to ask the security staff to register you as a visitor, which includes temperature and symptom screening. If you are having difficulty entering the building, please call the NTS offices on 0203 594 0888.

Personal Screening

On arrival at the NTS office you will need to take your temperature using the non-contact thermometer (or ask a colleague to assist), check for any symptoms against a provided list, and sign the staff record book. If you are unwell, display any of the symptoms or have a raised temperature, you will need to speak to the duty consultant immediately.

Masks

All staff are required to wear a surgical mask when moving about the hospital including all public and ward areas.

Within the NTS offices, staff are required to wear a mask where social distancing is not possible. We have chosen to set a limit of six people within the office for successful social distancing – if more than six people are present then masks will need to be worn.

It is recommended to take meals in the NICU staff room, however masks may be removed to take meals in the NTS office if all staff present are happy with this.
