Joining the Team

We currently have vacancies for neonatal nurses and doctors.  As well as providing neonatal transfers, all clinical staff are encouraged to be involved in teaching, training and simulation, case discussions and service improvement as a multidisciplinary team.

Those considering applying for an NTS job should arrange one or more days observing (please see the ride-along page) which will help you decide whether it is right for you and give useful insights for the application process and interviews.

Nurses

Nurses are expected to be a Senior Band 6, working within a tertiary neonatal unit.  Those with transport experience who wish to join the staff bank can contact NTS directly.  NTS nurses will undertake single clinician transfers of stable, non-ventilated babies along with an ambulance technician, and emergency uplift transfers along with a doctor and a paramedic or technician.

Vacancies for permanent posts are advertised at NHS Jobs via the Royal London Hospital.  Secondments from other tertiary units are also possible.

Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners with transport experience can work in an equivalent role to the doctor in all transports.

Doctors

Doctors should be senior ST level 6-8, or post CCT or equivalent with prior tertiary neonatal experience.  Vacancies are advertised via NHS Jobs and appointments are made under contract to the Royal London Hospital, usually on a six-month basis.  London Deanery training posts may rotate through NTS, and ST trainees from other Deaneries may be considered for a placement with agreement from the local deanery. We also employ Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners to work on the doctors’ rota.

Ambulance Crew

The ambulance service for London NTS is provided by St John Ambulance (SJA). Paramedics, Ambulance Technicians and other crew members with blue light qualifications may be able to join the SJA staff bank or apply for substantive jobs when advertised.

Ambulance Crew members are an integral part of the NTS team, and take an active role in the stabilisation and transfer of neonates.
