We will be recruiting very soon for additional nursing and medical staff for the London Neonatal Transfer Service. Could you see yourself as part of the busiest neonatal transfer service in the United Kingdom?
In 2015 we transferred over 1700 babies to or from neonatal units within London. 707 of these babies were ventilated, and of those that were ventilated, 33% were requiring additional support with inotropes, nitric oxide, and / or therapeutic cooling.
Many of the babies we transfer are really sick, and require a highly skilled team of professionals to ensure that they receive the very best care during the transfer process. The experience you would gain during your time on London NTS is somewhat unique, and it has been said that it is like gaining 2 or 3 years of tertiary level neonates concentrated into a six month block.
You will need to have tertiary level experience at a senior level, (band 6 or 7 for nurses, ST6+ for clinical fellows).
• Maybe you are a band 6 or 7 nurse who is looking for a new challenge, but still wants to be hands on, rather than ‘in charge’ every shift.
• Maybe you have completed your grid training and are looking to consolidate your experience prior to applying for a unit consultant post.
London NTS is based at the Royal London Hospital in East London. Transport links could not be any easier, with the Whitechapel station across the road from the hospital. This gives access to the District, Hammersmith & City, and Overground Lines, as well as the DLR a short walk away at Shadwell.
We are located across the corridor from NICU, and are able to join unit staff with established teaching and development opportunities available.
We have three emergency teams per 24hrs that run 7:30am till 7:30pm, 9:00am till 9pm, and 7:30pm till 7:30am. We also run a nurse led elective service for non-ventilated stable babies over 1kg who need transfer which also runs 7:30am till 7:30pm.
We are keen to hear from suitably experience medical and nursing staff who are free from March 2016 onwards. If you have any questions, or would like to arrange an informal visit, please email London-NTS@bartshealth.nhs.uk or call 0203 594 0568 and ask to speak to Claire or Louise.
