Doctors Induction and Simulation
This week we were very pleased to welcome five new doctors who will be working with the team for the next six months. Before going out on the road, those new to the team follow an induction programme to learn about how the team works and train on the specialist transport equipment.
As part of induction, we run real-time simulations of emergencies using our transport equipment in one of the team ambulances, with a nurse and technician role-playing as themselves. This gives new doctors a chance to practice adapting their specialist skills to the cramped environment of an ambulance.
It’s very rare that an emergency occurs once a baby is on-board the ambulance, but using realistic simulation helps the whole team practice working together and prepare to handle any scenario they encounter.
